Datura, also known as jimsonweed or devil's trumpet, is a native plant of North America that flourishes in the desert southwest.  It has been used in traditional medicines and ceremonies, and it's just jawdropping beautiful!  I ran across a huge clump of it on a frontage road outside of Las Cruces, NM glowing in the late afternoon fall sun.  I instantly had to turn around and snap multiple photos of it trying to capture all its wonder.  I love the buds, the blooms which are about 4-5" tall, and how the bloom remnants curl around each other.  Stunning! I'm finally getting to paint from my photos and memories and have a series started.
